![]() ![]() The wingmast is very well proven - proven not to work on most small monos, that is. The Formula 18, Formula 16 and A Class cat guys use booms for a reason, even when they have wide travellers. One also has to wonder what one could gain by leaving the boom off - after all, if you DO sail high angles downwind then you often only need an incredibly light and cheap boom, so they give superior sail shape at minimal cost. Similarly, the Micro Cuppers and Elliott 5.9s (which are pretty comparable boats) don't sail high angles downwind, so they need booms. One suspects there's going to be a lot of time reaching back and forth getting frustrated with the inability to sail low and close to course. The FF's rig is 25% smaller, but even in ideal conditions the FF never gets close to sailing angles high enough for an assy, much less a boomless main. The hull weight is similar to that of the Flying 15, which has a longer waterline length and could well be lighter in racing trim. The boomless rig and assy appear to be possibly problematic. The size and general concept is nice, but some of the details appear to be a little bit like throwing Formula One kit like wings, head leashes and fat tires onto a small campervan in the hope that they will make it go fast. It may just rinse off through normal use/regular cleaning and rubs off any time you get within a few inches of it.Hmmmm. Do I just get some blue Sunbrella type material put in some stainless snaps and make up my own or make a wooden, plexiglass or sailboard cover? Fabric with snaps would be easier to store and could be made with ties, snaps or velcro to hold it up like a Roman shade while a solid cover would need to be made of multiple pieces it order to make storage more convenient plus a track, etc would need to be installed.Īlso since they did not rough it up when they applied the bottom paint and I do not leave it in the water do I wash whats left off or just scrape any loose off and freshen it. ![]() To cooler cover is almond/bone like the topsides and the storage compartment cover does not exist so I am considering my options there. The waterline stripe is medium brown in the Gelcoat and there is no decal as the Galilee 15 branding is also in the gelcoat in black/dark brown lettering. Mine is from Nov 1983 with hull number 168 and yours Jul 1986 with hull number 437 so 2 years 9 months older and 269 hulls later so some design changes appear to have been made over that span. ![]()
